Seniors' Safety
We can all feel vulnerable at times, but a loss can be particularly severe for seniors. If you have elderly neighbours, get to know them and keep an eye out for them. If you see anything that worries you, call the police.

Never keep large amounts of money on your person or in your home. Keep piggy banks or change jars out of sight. Your money is safer in a bank. Only withdraw enough money to meet your immediate needs. Pay bills with cheques, with credit cards or debit cards, or at the bank or online.

Lock up; even if you're at home or just stepping out for a moment. Keep valuables in a safety deposit box.

Be particularly wary of anyone offering bargains or prizes over the phone. Many con artists use the phone to reach seniors. If you belong to a senior activity centre or social club, ask them to get the police or other experts to speak to you on crime prevention.
